1. Get organized. The night before, get all of your materials ready and sit down with your student to go over the schedule. This will help avoid any morning surprises or stress.
  2. Make it fun. Your first day should be relaxed and enjoyable. Talk about what you’ll be studying and let your student choose one activity that they’re really looking forward to doing.
  3. Establish some ground rules. It’s important to set some basic guidelines for how you expect your student to behave in the home environment. This will help prevent any power struggles later on down the road.
  4. Be patient. It’s going to take a little time for both you and your student to get into a groove. Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go perfectly on the first day – just take a deep breath and keep trying!
  5. Get input from your student. One of the best ways to make sure your homeschooling experience is successful is to involve your student as much as possible. Ask them what they’re interested in learning and how they think they can be most productive in the home environment.
  6. Take breaks when needed. It’s important not to push yourself (or your student) too hard on the first day – especially if it’s been a while since you’ve been in school! Plan some short breaks throughout the day so everyone can stay refreshed and focused.
  7. Give yourself time to adjust too! Just like your student, it may take you some time to get used to homeschooling again. Take things one step at a time and don’t be afraid to ask for help from other homeschoolers if you need it.
  8. Set goals for each day/week/month . Having specific goals in mind will help keep you both on track and motivated throughout the school year .
  9. Celebrate successes along the way! Be sure to acknowledge any accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem – this will help encourage your student (and yourself!) to keep going .
  10. Relax and have fun! The most important thing is that you enjoy this new journey together – after all, homeschooling should be enjoyable for both teacher and student alike!
