- Schedule “work time” and “play time” into the day so that your child knows when it is time to focus on schoolwork
- Create a dedicated workspace for your child, away from distractions like television or video games
- Make sure that you are available to answer questions and help with assignments as needed
- Encourage breaks every 20 minutes or so to allow your child to move around and stay fresh
- Be flexible – some days will be better than others, and that’s okay!
- Make sure your child is getting enough sleep at night – a tired homeschooler is not going to be able to focus in class
- Create a daily schedule for your homeschooler that includes time for schoolwork and breaks
- Help your child find ways to stay engaged with the material – if they’re struggling, try using different methods or finding supplemental materials
- Encourage positive reinforcement – praise your child when they do well in class or on their assignments
- Take a breake, sometimes both you and your child need to step back a little. Go out to the park and have a picnic, spending cuality time is priceless.
