There is no “right” way to ease into homeschooling, as everyone’s situation and needs will be different. However, here are some tips that may help:

  1. Start slowly. Don’t try to change everything overnight. Gradually add in more homeschooling days or hours until you are doing most or all of your schooling at home.
  2. Let your child take the lead. If they are resistant to homeschooling, let them take the lead in how they want to learn. Maybe they want to do schoolwork on the computer, or maybe they want to do it all by themselves. Let them find what works best for them.
  3. Take advantage of resources online and in your community. There are tons of resources available online, from pintables and lesson plans to support groups and forums where you can ask questions and get help from other homeschoolers. In your local community, there may also be resources available like libraries with homeschooling sections, moms’ groups that meet regularly, and co-ops where you can join forces with other parents for a few classes each week.
  4. Make sure you have a plan and know what you’re doing. It’s important to have some sort of plan when you start homeschooling, even if it’s just a basic framework of what you want to accomplish each day or week. This will help keep you organized and on track. You don’t need to be an expert educator – there are plenty of resources available to help you get started – but knowing what you’re doing will make the transition easier for both you and your child.
